Making a Positive Impact: Charity & Fundraising at The Royal Hotel

Charity Partnership 2026

The Royal Hotel Cookstown Announces Niamh Louise Foundation as Charity of the Year

At The Royal Hotel Cookstown, community is at the heart of everything we do. Following staff nominations and a team-wide vote, we are proud to announce the Niamh Louise Foundation as our Charity of the Year.

Founded in February 2006 following the death by suicide of 15-year-old Niamh McKee in November 2005, the Foundation was established by Niamh's family and members of her local community in Clonmore, outside Dungannon.

Niamh's passing highlighted a critical lack of accessible suicide bereavement and mental health support services in rural areas. Determined to ensure that no individual or family would face these challenges alone, the charity was created to provide vital support, understanding, and hope.

Today, based in Cookstown, the Niamh Louise Foundation is a well-established organisation supporting individuals, families, and communities across Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on rural and hard-to-reach areas.

The Foundation provides compassionate, person-centred support to those experiencing emotional distress, suicidal thoughts, self-harm, or sudden bereavement.

Its core mission is to create a safe and supportive environment where anyone can talk openly about their mental health without fear of judgement.

The organisation works to:

  • Reduce suicide rates through prevention, intervention, and postvention support
  • Raise awareness and challenge stigma around suicide and self-harm
  • Provide early intervention and education to individuals and communities
  • Support those bereaved or affected by suicide
  • Promote recovery, resilience, and long-term wellbeing
  • The Foundation's outstanding work has been recognised through numerous awards, including the Mid Ulster Business Award, the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service, and national recognition through the Family Support Organisation of the Year and National Lottery Awards.

We are honoured to support an organisation that shares our values of compassion, inclusion, and community impact.
